Huarache

A type of Mexican shoe that has been worn for centuries. Each pair is handmade and made from natural materials by skilled artisans in Mexico, using traditional construction techniques.

Origins

In the Aztec culture common people wore sandals woven from agave fiber, while the most notable people wore cotton and leather sandals. Warriors wore jaguar leather sandals, and the ruling class had sandals sewn with gold wire and covered with precious stones.

Arrival To The USA

The Mexican woven sandal first became popular in the US during the 1960s, when they were part of the uniform of hippies and surfers in California. The Beach Boys even mentioned them in their 1964 hit “Surfin’ USA.”
